The U.S. auto industry had one of its worst years in 1982 when customers were beginning to feel the effects of the 1973 oil crisis and the energy crisis of 1979. The Twin Cam could be paired with either a five-speed manual transmission or four-speed automatic. Standard with either engine was a four-speed manual transmission, but the five-speed manual was only available with the four-cylinder.
